The Castle of Beynac with 2 delightful 24 year olds
photo

I have a wonderful nephew, Logan.  He is 24, he has a friend, John Banks, a Texas young man who was his roommate at Texas State University.  John has come for New Years at Colorado.  The "boys" were going castle looking yesterday and invited me to go along.  They were a blast!  We drove about an hour and half southwest of Egletons, in typical french winter weather -- rainy and foggy.  Fortunately, when we arrived at Beynac no rain!  Beynac castle was begun in the 12th century and is a feudal fortress, absolutely Fabulous.  (okay, I know I am using a lot of superlatives, but it's the only way to describe the day).

The pictures are of the castle and medieval village below (the village is still lived in today). It was fun for we three to imagine knights and barons walking the same stairs, kitchen, bedooms and grounds of the castle.  The chapel is still used today, but wouldn't you know it closed just that day.  uggggh.

The pleasure for me was how those two young men included me in everything.  That evening we went to another midieval village (intertwined with a modern village) and had a typical European dinner,  meaning you do not rush through, and the restaurants don't even open until 7:00 p.m.  It was VERY strange for John Banks, who is in Europe for the first time. he is really trying to be "game" about the whole thing.

I am finding out so much about what is cultural Christianity and what isn't.  You know how we have coffee after church, manytimes in France they have wine.  Speaking of church we are just about ready to have church in the main dining room, so I'll close for now.
