We traveled on to Aigues-mortes (pronouced Eggmont -- honest) This tower is only about 400 years ago.  Remember the Protestant Huguenots?  This is one of the areas that they were percecuted.  The story goes that a young woman was arrested on her wedding day and put in the tower (I think other women were there also) all she and the other women needed to do was renounce the Protestant faith and become Catholic.  Some women did but this young woman spent the next 25 years in the tower and NEVER renounced her faith.  She came out an old crippled woman.  As I said this was the exact tower she and the other women were held.
